The Beach, Frequently asked questions
What is The Beach?
The Beach is an outdoor, interactive, theatre-gaming experience for adults that take place on Prestatyn seafront at 7pm – 9:30pm, from 27th July – 1st August 2010.
Where Can I buy my tickets?
Tickets are available by phone, online booking and in person from the Scala Arts Centre, Prestatyn up to 5:30pm on the day of performance. After 5:30pm, tickets for that evening’s performance will only be available from the Ticket Hut (cash only) at the rear of the Nova Centre.
Where is the meeting point?
The Performance start point is the rear of the Nova Centre (promenade side) – you will see our Ticket Hut and Front of House staff who will tell you what to do next. There are toilets in the Nova Centre and there are public toilets on the promenade.
Where Can I Park?
There are 2 car parks directly next to the Nova Centre, parking opposite the Nova Centre is free after 5pm.
What Can I expect?
We ask you to step into Charlie’s world and help him complete his mission to make Prestatyn a world-class town. We ask you to play a variety of games to help Charlie – you can expect puzzles, physical games, team challenges and lots of fun! Games are played as a team and so no one person will be expected to do anything beyond their ability or comfort zone.
Is it like going to the theatre?
No. The Beach is interactive so Charlie and TJ will talk to you and you can ask them questions. There is no stage as all the games you play are part of the show. It is totally interactive - you are the action!
What about the weather?
The Beach is outdoors so we ask you to wear clothing and footwear appropriate to the weather outside on that day and to bear in mind the performance takes place from 7pm – 9:30pm. Keep yourself warm, dry and comfortable and please check the weather on the day of your performance and dress accordingly.
We are responsible for your Health & Safety, we will adjust each performance in accordance with that days weather so all games are safe and enjoyable to play. We will never ask you to take part in the performance if we deem the weather to be dangerous. We have an alternative venue, where games can be played under cover during bad weather – if we move the performance to this venue we will ferry the audience from the Nova centre to the other venue and return you at the end of the performance.
Will I get dirty?
Some of the games are physical but it is up to you how much you choose to roll around in the sand (or not!) You might get wet from some of the games too (or the weather) so please dress appropriately and with suitable footwear for being active.
Can I play with my friends?
The audience are split into teams at the beginning of the performance, you can stay with your friends or you might choose to meet new people and join a different team.
What do I win?
You’ll have to wait and see!
Is it accessible?
National Theatre Wales has a commitment to accessibility across all our productions and we aspire to make the work available and accessible to all, including our more unusual sites. This policy is adapted for the specific capabilities of individual productions. The Beach performance is entirely interactive and takes place on the sand/beach area directly behind the Nova Centre . There is a rough ramp down to this area but there will be no boards provided on the sand. There are a mixture of skills and abilities needed for the games, the majority of games are physical, some are listening and logic. The audience will be put into teams so your skills will be part of the team’s skills and no individual will need to perform tasks beyond their abilities. If you have mobility or sight issues we would suggest that you bring a companion with you and we will ensure that you are placed in the same group. We regret that we cannot offer captioned, touch tour or signed performances for this production.
The playing areas are:
The Civic Area – this is next to the Nova Centre, the ground is concrete and ramps and is fully accessible for wheelchair users. This is where 2 of the games will take place. The Promenade – directly behind the Nova Centre, the ground is flat concrete and fully accessible for wheelchair users. 2 games will take place here. The Beach - we are using the beach directly behind the Nova Centre for 2 games and the main Billboard. This part of the beach will be clearly marked by stakes and ropes. There is a rough ramp down to this area but there will be no boards on the sand. There are a mixture of skills and abilities needed for the games, some are listening and logic, some are more physical.
