In July 2010, National Theatre Wales took social gaming to the North Wales cost. Designed as a theatrical gaming experience for adults, 'The Beach' aimed to bring back Prestatyn's missing generation. The sell out show, saw groups of 6 players in 6 teams competing against each other in a series of physical, mental and thought provoking games in order to win pieces or elements.
In partnership with Hide&Seek, three writers took on the challenge of creating a social gaming experience like no other.
The interactive show also had an online life, with games, characters and more coming to life n Facebook, youtube and more, you can find more information on this by visiting our community pages here.

We founded the UK’s first festival of pervasive games in London in 2007, which is now the Hide&Seek Weekender, taking place every summer on London’s South Bank. We run the Sandpit, a series of events around the UK and a thriving network of artists, game designers and players. And we create social games and playful experiences for clients in the commercial, public and cultural sectors.
Our values are centred around our belief that play, as a theme, a way of being, and design tool, is integral to understanding how culture will develop in the 21st century.
National Theatre Wales would like to acknowledge the support of our partners during the production of The Beach.
The Scala Arts Centre development is the result of much commitment, hard work and tenacity and the generosity of a number of individuals and funding bodies. The ambition of the Scala Prestatyn Company is to make the centre a major cultural destination for North Wales.
Ffrith Beach Festival Gardens is everything you need for a fun family day out. Acres of parkland with direct access to the beach, situated between Rhyl & Prestatyn on the A548 Coast Road.
